Soft Services x NYFW: Body Meets Dress

— Soft Services newsletter

Rachel Comey’s working girls, Presley Oldham’s dripping pearls.

A fashion show is a little like a movie, at a fraction of the runtime. The clothes take center stage—or runway, if you prefer—like an ensemble cast of movie stars, supported by an even bigger invisible network of labor; artists, technicians, DJs, publicists, list havers, clipboard holders, earpiece wearers, and… us. Body care is a supporting player in this production, but an important one, given the relationship between clothes and the bodies that wear them.

Just like fittings must occur, and Anna’s gotta sit front row, limbs have to be moisturized before they walk out. We’re always excited to be a part of things. Here’s what we got down to this year. [on September 10th, at 11:15 AM] The downtown designer Rachel Comey presented her Spring Summer 2025 collection at 101 Greenwich Street, around the corner from the Stock Exchange.

The clothes imagined the street-savvy Comey customer, particularly ruminating on her professional wardrobe. “They’re women who work,” Comey told Vogue Runway. When the body was revealed, it was slightly so; an exposed clavicle here, a glimpse of hipbone there. [On September 11th, at 3:00 PM] CFDA Fashion Fund finalist, jewelry designer, and Soft Services fan Presley Oldham held his SS25 presentation at Boom, atop the Standard Hotel. Oldham’s pieces incorporated smooth, spacey stones alongside fairytale flowers sculpted from yarn, and his signature pearls were incorporated into spaghetti straps and belly chains.

Key makeup artist Alex Levy painted models to look like they’d just been born from the sea, with pearlescent shadows and highlights, and beachy, gleaming skin. He used Soft Services to nourish models’ skin ahead of and during the presentation. “Clamshells pried open, pearl shining in the sun waiting for us to grab it. Sandy feet and sunburned back. Dripping. ” —Presley Oldham SS25 show notes “I want [models] to feel like they’re fresh out of the water.
